Refractive Surgery for correction of myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism, and hyperopia (farsightedness.)

Optomap The Optomap exam is an advanced way of capturing images of the retina to help your doctor identify problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes or detachments and systemic diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure.

Paragon CRT The newest advancement in Corneal Refractive Therapy. Paragon CRT is a specially designed contact lens that gently and temporarily reshapes the cornea while the wearer sleeps. The therapy provides the patient with great vision without contacts, glasses and surgery.

HRT Glaucoma Module We use this instrument exclusively to track glaucoma (HRT 3)

Refractive Surgery

Refractive Surgery    Photorefractive Keractectomy (PRK) and Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) are two laser vision-correcting methods we offer to decrease dependency on glasses and contact lenses. PRK is a precise, minimally invasive method of reshaping the cornea to correct low to moderate amounts of nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism. A computerized laser emits cool pulses of UV light to gently reshape the surface of the cornea to achieve the desired correction. Since the laser removes only a thin layer of cornea less than the thickness of a human hair, the cornea retains its original strength.

LASIK treats low to high levels of nearsightedness, astigmatism, and low to moderate levels of farsightedness (hyperopia). Using an instrument called a microkeratome, a smallflap is partially lifted from the surface of the cornea and hinged to the side, leaving the inner portion of the cornea exposed. The exposed layer of the cornea is reshaped with the laser. The corneal flap is placed back in the original position and due to the cornea's extraordinary bonding quality, the flap remains in position without stitches.

Optomap    In our continued efforts to bring you the most advanced technology, we are proud to offer the Optomap retinal exam as an integral part of your eye exam.

Many indicators of systemic disease and precursors to eye conditions often exhibit first in the periphery of the retina. However, routine retinal examination methods provide only a limited, narrow-field view of the retina, therefore they can miss disorders or diseases that may be present and can be evidenced in the periphery of the retina. To capture a greater percentage of the retina, either the patient's eye must be dilated, causing patient discomfort, or multiple images of the retina must be taken.

The Optomap exam is fast, easy, and comfortable. It can help your doctor identify retinal problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes or detachments and systemic diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure. These conditions can lead to serious problems including partial loss of vision or blindness and can often develop without symptoms.

An Optomap exam provides:
• An eye wellness scan
• An in depth view of the retinal layers (where disease can start)
• The ability for you to view your Optomap retinal image with your doctor during the exam.
• An annual permanent record for your medical file, which gives your doctor comparisons for tracking and diagnosing potential eye disease.

We are excited to offer another option that can eliminate the need for daytime contact lenses or glasses without surgery!

Paragon CRT

Paragon's Corneal Refractive Therapy uses space age oxygen-breathing materials to reshape the cornea while you sleep. When you remove the lenses upon waking, your vision is temporarily corrected. Finally, patients with myopia (with or without moderate astigmatism) have another option to free them from the bothers of glasses or contacts.

At the Eger Eye Group, we use cutting edge technology to identify, diagnose, and treat your conditions. Some new technology we are proud to offer below.

Heidelberg Retina Tomograph

Refractive Surgery    The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph is a system that combines a laser scanning camera and specialized software that evaluates the optic nerve. The HRT may diagnose glaucoma years before symptoms become apparent to the patient. The HRT gives measurements of size, depth and shape of the optic nerve and is especially useful at detecting small changes over time. The HRT exam takes just a few moments; it is a painless, non-invasive test and dilation of the eye is usually not necessary. The HRT is an accurate way to follow your progress and we may order repeat exams periodically to check your progress.

Remember that the key to controlling glaucoma is catching it early. The best way to prevent vision loss form glaucoma is to know your risk factors and to have eye examinations at appropriate intervals.

Optomap Retinal Exam
Optomap  The Optomap Retinal Exam is unique in that it gives eyecare professionals a much larger view (200 degrees) of the back of the eye - your retina - than conventional eye exam equipment. The images can be taken without dilating your pupils - a very common procedure which is uncomfortable and inconvenient for many people.

The Optomap image is displayed immediately after being taken, allowing the eye care professional to review it quickly and if necessary, refer you to a retinal specialist. Using the Internet, the image can be sent anywhere in the world for a specialist to review.

Each Optomap image is as individual as fingerprints or DNA and can provide eye care professionals with a unique view of your health very quickly and comfortably. The Optomap image is captured in less than one second and is immediately available for you and your doctor to review.

The Optomap Retinal Exam offers many advantages including:
*Provides an ultra-widefield view of the retina
*Comfortable and quick image capture
*Helps you understand your eye health
*Provides permanent records for future comparison
*Does not require dilating drops which typically cause *blurred vision and sensitivity to light
*Patient can resume normal activities immediately

Optical Coherence Tomography

Refractive Surgery    The Cirrus OCT incorporates ocular coherence tomography technology to provide comprehensive imaging and measurement of glaucoma and retinal disease. Cirrus OCT is the gold standard in vivo imaging device for the posterior segment and offers proven reproducibility for disease management. The Cirrus OCT provides real-time cross-sectional images and quantitative analysis of retinal features to optimize the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal disease and for enhanced pre- and post-therapy assessment. The device is beneficial for evaluation of cataract patients, pre- and post-operatively, and for the assessment of early signs of glaucoma and glaucomatous change.

Provides in vivo, cross-sectional images and quantitative analysis of retinal features to optimize the diagnosis and monitoring of retinal disease and for enhanced pre- and post-therapy assessment Provides retinal imaging and analysis to facilitate a more complete assessment of pre- and post-op cataract patients for better patient management.

Frequency Doubling Visual Fields

Refractive Surgery    Frequency Doubling Technology is a new technique that has been designed for rapid and effective detection of visual field loss due to glaucoma and other ocular diseases. Years of research and clinical trials of this technology have resulted in an instrument which provides rapid, clinically validated and user-friendly visual field testing. We have all our patients undergo this procedure as some visual field defects are completely asymptomatic. In some cases, we have diagnosed eye and neurological disease based on the results of this 60 second test.
